GIVING VOICE – 13 Indigenous & Non-Indigenous Celebrating Musical Diversity and Creating A Cross-Cultural Musical Experience

VANCOUVER, BC – Haida-Tsimshian musical duo Sister Says have teamed up with the Bill Reid Gallery and Christ Church Cathedral to present, Giving Voice, a cross-cultural musical experience on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Christ Church Cathedral at 7pm. This all ages event showcases 13 Indigenous and non-Indigenous performers combining the sounds of soul, blues, and hip-hop.

This musical celebration will feature established and emerging artists including Juno Award winner, Murray Porter (Mohawk), Western Canadian Music Award winner, Kristie McCracken, and local Vancouver guitar virtuoso, David Morin (Metis). Hosting the evening will be Grace Dove (Secwepemc), actress from the Oscar Award-Winning movie, the Revenant and Linsay Willier (Cree), actress and runner-up in Canada’s Next Top Model.

This show is about bringing communities together with a fresh approach to curating from an Indigenous perspective,” says Gillian Thomson of Sister Says, “We are also paying tribute to Bill Reid’s popular and accessible concerts that brought Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities together.”

Giving Voice will engage and enrich the participating performers as well as the diverse audience it will bring together by contributing to community through sharing musical traditions between cultures.

One hundred free tickets will be made available to non-profit organizations and low-income families and youth to ensure Giving Voice is accessible and brings together a truly diverse audience.

Giving Voice is aligned with the legacy of Bill Reid, and the vision of the Bill Reid Gallery, which is to reveal the vitality and diverse cultures of the Northwest Coast through its art. It is also aligned with Christ Church Cathedral’s commitment to accessible reconciliation themed programming.

Tickets to Giving Voice are available now and can be purchased online. More information about this event and the performers can be found at givingvoice.ca
