The Patient Care Quality Review Board Act provides an avenue for patients to voice complaints about the quality of the health care they received or the absence of health care services they believe they were entitled to receive. Each Health Authority has a designated complaint office (PCQO) that accepts complaints filed by individuals or their representatives for resolution. It is the Patient Care Quality Review Board that examines and recommends action for complaints not resolved by the Health Authority PCQO. The Review Boards ensure that complaints are properly addressed and that the Minister is informed of the number of complaints, the services in question and the actions taken to improve the overall quality of those services.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Liaison Office, in the Patient Care Quality Department, the Care Quality Liaison will support patients and clients throughout the review process. The Care Quality Liaison is responsible for researching information and conducting a comprehensive analysis of medical evidence, reports, personal information and other related documentation to determine issues for review within the parameters of the Patient Care Quality Review Board Act and its directives. They receive and request information that may be confidential and quite sensitive in nature and they respond to patient inquiries and complaints through written correspondence and by telephone. The Care Quality Liaison is also responsible for preparing comprehensive written summaries of patient care quality complaints for presentation to complainants, staff, external stakeholders and the Boards.

The role requires strong knowledge of research, analysis and investigation techniques. Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below
:

  • Degree in Public or Health Science Administration, or a related field (Criminology, Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology etc) plus 1 year of recent, related experience* OR
  • Diploma in Public or Health Science Administration or a related field plus 2 years recent related, experience* OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a related field plus 3 years recent, related experience OR
  • No degree and a minimum of 4 years of recent, related experience*
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the health sector or social service sector.

*Recent, related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience in interpretation and application of complex legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Experience responding to service issues/complaints and recommending remedial measures.
  • Experience performing research, preparing briefing documents, reports, and correspondence without error.

PLEASE NOTE: This position includes regular/frequent exposure to difficult and sometimes disturbing information involving health related adverse events impacting a range of populations, including children.
