The Ministry of Attorney General is responsible for government law reform, the administration of justice, and for providing legal services that ensure lawful public administration.  The Ministry provides leadership to the justice sector and delivers justice services.

As a branch within the Ministry of Attorney General, Court Services employs approximately1,300 staff to deliver programs and services at 89 court locations, in person, by telephone, via video and the Internet.  The branch’s programs and services include case documentation and adjudication support (i.e. case initiation and processing, fee collection, file and exhibit management, court clerking, court records and transcripts, interpreter services, and the preparation and dissemination of court orders); court and courthouse security and court order enforcement including holding and transporting of prisoners by ground and air from police jails and from federal and provincial correctional facilities; the collection of court fines; and the civil bailiff process.  The branch also manages and maintains all courthouse facilities.

The branch’s operational programs and services are managed and delivered through five regions (i.e. courthouses serving Vancouver Island, Vancouver Coastal, Fraser, Interior, and North).

The purpose of this position is to provide Deputy District Registrar services in the Supreme Court and Deputy Registrar duties in the Provincial Court as delegated by the District Registrar.  The position also provides technical and administrative support, to the Judiciary, Registry staff and Court Clerks relating to civil and family court matters.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience working in a legal environment; prefer 1 year of experience working in Court Administration.
  • Two (2) years recent clerical experience education and/or training.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience using computers and software programs (e.g., Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must have (or be able to achieve certification within six months of appointment) certification as a Deputy District Registrar under the provisions of the Supreme Court Act and the Public Service Act.
  • Typing speed of minimum 40 wpm.

Preferences:

  • Prefer two (2) years’ experience working in customer service.
  • Prefer Authorized Signing Officer for Registrar with signing authority.
  • Prefer experience working in Civil Programs.
  • Prefer experience in Civil Electronic Information System (CEIS).
