The Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia (PGT) is an independent statutory corporation sole and acts under provincial legislation to protect the legal rights and interests of children, vulnerable adults and deceased or missing persons. Promoting family involvement in securing protection for individuals or their estates is priority one for the Public Guardian and Trustee.
The Services to Adults Division delivers a wide range of individualized services to or on behalf of vulnerable adults who require assistance in managing, protecting, and making decisions about their personal, financial or legal affairs. Vulnerable adults may require assistance by reason of mental illness, developmental disability, traumatic brain injury or degenerative conditions affecting brain functions (e.g.: dementia)
The assessment and investigations services (AIS) and health care decision making (HCD) team is seeking a regional consultant to work out of the Public Guardian and Trustee’s Vancouver office. This position will be responsible for making urgent decisions involving complex financial, personal and medical matters and must do so by carefully balancing a vulnerable adult’s right to autonomy with the need to protect them. These decisions are based on evidence gathered by the regional consultant, analysis of the risk to the adult’s financial or personal well-being, and research in accordance with legislation.

The Regional Consultant has solid working knowledge of legislation and community resources relating to vulnerable adults and has the ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgement in problem solving and decisions making. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
Bachelor’s Degree in social work, social sciences, health sciences, psychology, or related field.
Preference may be given to candidates with a Masters Degree in a related field.
Minimum of 3 years progressive, recent, and related experience.
Progressive, recent and related experience includes:
Experience working in a setting oriented towards providing services to people with disabilities and providing service to people with a mental illness, developmental disability, traumatic brain injury or degenerative conditions affecting brain functions (e.g.: dementia).
Experience working in collaboration with health, social and other government agencies in a decision-making role.
Experience effectively managing a high volume of competing priorities regarding complex, sensitive issues.
Experience working with Microsoft office and within client databases.
Required to work occasional weekends and statutory holidays (on-call (8:00am – Noon)) on a rotational basis.
Exposure to a high stress work environment working with complex, ambiguous and emotionally charged situations.
Regular travel (alone, and at times with little notice) to hospitals and care facility settings across the province may be required.
May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
