Bring your vision, leadership and strategic planning skills to this important roleEmergency Management British Columbia (EMBC) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities, including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. As such, EMBC’s mission is to be responsible to British Columbians for leading the management of provincial level emergencies and disasters and supporting other authorities within their areas of jurisdiction.

Within EMBC the Integrated Partnership for Regional Emergency Management (IPREM) is an intergovernmental partnership between the Provincial Government and Metro Vancouver Regional District on behalf of 21 municipalities, one Treaty First Nation and one electoral area. The IPREM Steering Committee, equally represented by the provincial and local government, determines the annual priorities fore emergency management in the region. IPREM was formed to lead and coordinate regional emergency management planning initiatives and is designed to collaboratively engage all levels of government and relevant stakeholders in regional emergency planning initiatives for the geographical area of the Metro Vancouver Region.

The IPREM Senior Project Manager leads and manages multiple, complex, regional integrated planning projects to ultimately improve efficiency and effectiveness of emergency management plans, programs, and processes. Regional projects are taken from original concept through to final completion.

Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree in Emergency Management, Business Administration or a related field PLUS 3 years of related* experience; OR
  • Diploma in Emergency Management, Business Administration or a related field PLUS 5 years of related* experience; OR
  • Certificate in Emergency Management, Business Administration or a related field PLUS 7 years of related* experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g. sub-project) of a major project.

Related* experience includes the following:

  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders and leading stakeholder engagement sessions including issues management and conflict resolution.
  • Experience organizing, developing, facilitating and leading workshops and emergency exercises.
  • Experience preparing contracts and directing the work of others (contractors, external stakeholders).
  • Experience in budget management and procurement.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Formal project management training and/or certification.

Candidates may be able and willing to:

  • Work in operational deployments across the province and for extended hours during emergency activations.
