Provincial System Support Program

CAMH’s Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) works with communities, service providers and other partners across Ontario to move evidence to action to create sustainable, system-level change. With offices in Toronto and across the province, PSSP is on the ground collaborating with stakeholders to build a better system through our work in implementation, knowledge exchange, evaluation, data management, health equity and engagement.

Position Description

The Provincial System Support Program at CAMH is seeking a full-time, permanent Assistant Manager for the Northwest Region. The Assistant Manager, Northwest Region, reports to the Acting Manager Northwest Region and will provide managerial level oversight, coordination and support to the staff in the region’s two offices (Thunder Bay and Kenora). The Assistant Manager is responsible for leading a dynamic team and providing mentorship, coaching and supervision. The Assistant Manager must possess an understanding of the principles of engagement and cultural contexts necessary to work collaboratively with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities and service providers. They must also bring a strong understanding of health equity and the needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups to inform partnership development. They will provide a work environment that supports team work, embraces diversity and is free from harassment and discrimination.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for providing leadership and support to the team’s implementation of local and provincial change initiatives. They will provide coaching and day to day supervision for all team members. In conjunction with the Regional Manager, they will support the development of individual goals and performance targets, and the provision of regular performance feedback. They will support staff to fulfill required deliverables within their specific roles as well as identify capacity building needs and support the training and professional development of all roles. The Assistant Manager will provide support to the team to effectively implement evidence- based/informed projects and change initiatives occurring in the region. They will facilitate the identification of system priorities, needs, gaps, solutions and areas of potential PSSP support within the addiction and mental health system, assist in the implementation of system improvements and track overall project implementation. They will also identify risks and issues and elevate as appropriate for early resolution. In consultation with the Regional Manager, they will develop and monitor the annual budget, including annual programming and budget priority-setting.

In partnership with the Regional Manager, the Assistant Manager will develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders through significant regional and jurisdictional events. The role is also responsible for supporting key relationships and partnerships with important stakeholders at the local, municipal and regional level, representing the program and the organization.

While this position is located in Thunder Bay, regular travel to the Northwest region’s other office in Kenora is required, as is occasional travel to Toronto and throughout Ontario.


The candidate will possess a Master’s degree in health sciences, health administration, or a related field from a recognized institution with three years of demonstrated management experience. Management experience in designing, developing and implementing strategic initiatives and activities, particularly in the area of mental health and addictions is required. Experience in direct supervision of staff is required and experience with distance supervision is preferred. Demonstrated success working within interdisciplinary teams is required. Managerial and leadership experience within a fast paced diverse team environment is required. Strong problem solving skills and the ability to provide effective strategic solutions for systems or technical/process related issues is required. Experience developing and monitoring large project budgets is required. Excellent interpersonal, communication and mentoring skills coupled with the ability to work effectively as part of a team is required. Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring project and individual staff workplans, as well as higher level strategies and frameworks is required. Knowledge and demonstrated experience of healthcare issues/challenges, particularly within the mental health and addiction sector is preferred. They will also be an experienced builder of partnerships at a senior level. A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required in this position. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language is preferred and would be considered an asset.
