Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

As a member of the Community Planning Team, reporting to the Community Planning Manager, persons in this position undertake work related to:

  • Evaluates applications for minor variances, consent, zoning by-law amendments, site plan approval, and plan of condominium.
  • Evaluates the impact of a range of planning applications and initiatives.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data and information on demographic, economic, legal, social, cultural and physical information relating to urban land use and particular area studies.
  • Organizes and participates in meetings to exchange information on development proposals, policies under review, and other planning issues.
  • Responds to requests for information from developers, consultants, staff from other agencies and governments, elected officials, and the public. Arranges for production of reports. Maintains Divisional reports and records.
  • Prepares and presents evidence and opinion before the Ontario Municipal Board.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. University degree in Planning, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience with assignments demanding critical judgement and analytical thinking.
  3. Experience in preparing technical letters, reports and notices for management, internal staff, elected officials, other agencies, and the public.
  4. Experience using corporate computer applications, preferably including IBMS.
  5. Eligible for membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).

You must also have:

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural plans.
  • Ability to respond to public inquiries and concerns related to municipal approval of development applications.
  • Ability to work independently under time constraints and to meet deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills, accompanied by effective interpersonal skills, which include conflict resolution skills.
