Develop, implement and oversee the Hydro One aviation safety program, helping to ensure that a strong safety culture is engrained throughout all areas of the operation.
Support the Accountable Executive and Director of Helicopter Operations with the implementation of Helicopter Services goals/objectives/strategies through the development and oversight of an effective aviation safety program
Managing the operation of the aviation safety program;
Developing and providing training to employees and managers on the aviation safety program, their roles and responsibilities within the program and any procedures and/or practices applicable to their role;
Collecting and analysing safety information in a timely manner;
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of established barriers and other risk controls.
Advising the Accountable Executive and/or the Director of Helicopter Services of any aviation safety concerns or incidents;
Monitoring and evaluating the results of corrective actions;
Participate with other staff in the development of aviation-related work procedures and methods to minimize safety hazards;
Conducting and/or facilitating risk assessments and job hazard analyses as required;
Monitoring the aviation industry for safety concerns that could affect the organization;
Ensuring safety-related information, including organizational goals and objectives, are made available to all personnel through established communication processes;
Continually improving the aviation specific elements of the Emergency Response Plan, including developing, facilitating and/or participating in drills or exercises; and
Oversight of internal and external communication tools (newsletters, posters, safety alerts) that disseminate vital aviation safety information.
Current or recent commercial/air transport flight crew license holder (helicopter preferred);
2 years full-time experience in aviation safety in the capacity of an aviation safety investigator, safety/quality manager or safety risk manager;
An extensive knowledge of safety management systems (SMS) including the completion of appropriate SMS training;
An understanding of risk management principles and techniques to support the SMS;
Experience implementing and/or managing an SMS;
Experience and qualifications in aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors;
Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections;
Sound knowledge of aviation regulatory frameworks, including ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) and relevant civil aviation regulations (CARs);
The ability to communicate effectively at all levels both inside and outside the company;
The ability to be firm in conviction, promote a just and fair culture and yet advance an open and non-punitive atmosphere for reporting;
The ability and confidence to communicate directly to the accountable executive as their safety advisor and confidante
Computer literacy and superior analytical skills
