Under the authority of the Teachers Act, the Teacher Regulation Branch is the administrative body that supports the regulatory framework of the teaching profession in BC. The regulatory framework consists of five statutory decision makers namely the Director of Certification, the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, the Discipline and Professional Conduct Board, the BC Teachers’ Council, and the Independent School Teaching Certificate Standards Committee.
The certification Unit is comprised of the Director of Certification, the Manager of Certification, a team of 7 evaluators, 2 evaluation technicians and 6 clerical support staff.
An Evaluator evaluates pre-certification academic and professional preparation for applicants. The Evaluator provides advice to certificate holders and applicants regarding the interpretation of the Teachers Act and its regulations and policies. The position also conducts research and gathers evidence to provide clear, sound, and timely advice to certificate holders, employers of certificate holders and applicants. The Evaluator delivers these accountabilities with respect for cultural sensitivities and diversity and professional empathy.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related field.
- Experience managing a caseload.
- Experience in research and assessment.
- Experience in national and international transcript and credential evaluation, and fraudulent documents detection.
- Preference given to candidates who hold a valid BC Ministry of Education Professional Certificate of Qualification or have relevant teaching experience in the K-12 public or independent school system within the last ten years.
