The Manager, Network Operations and Planning provides technical and operational leadership for the Provincial data network architecture, design and operations of the Province of BC’s IP-based network infrastructure.
The main responsibility includes management of a team of Network Engineers, Architects and Analysts within the provincial government OCIO’s Network Communications and Collaboration Services team. The position will oversee the current and future architecture and technology roadmap of the province’s wide area network infrastructure. The position is also responsible to develop, plan, and implement projects that support the overall strategic goals of the organization and to evaluate and recommend changes to current and future network design to meet the organization’s needs.
The successful applicant will have knowledge of network infrastructure across multiple vendors as well as very good handle on network architecture skills on routing, switching, firewall, load balancing, VoIP telephony, datacenter and inter-DC technologies. Experience in managing large-scale data networking projects in highly complex data network environments is required. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Degree or diploma in an IT related discipline or, equivalent combination of education and experience such as post-secondary courses or training and additional years of related experience in progressively more responsible roles.
- 5 years experience in leading large data networking projects to implement technical solutions to meet client business requirements.
- Experience in identifying and evaluating risks associated with design and implementation of major and broad scale technicals solutions from a business and technological standpoint.
- Experience negotiating and managing complex information technology contracts.
- 3 years experience managing senior technical and professional staff, project teams and budgets.
