The Research, Innovation and Policy Division (RIPD) provides research, policy and legislation support to the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction so the ministry can successfully deliver services to improve the lives of low-income British Columbians. The division also leads the poverty reduction and disability files across government.

Reporting to an Executive Director, the Director leads a team of Policy Analysts to undertake policy development related to the ministry’s mandate. The Director works in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing deadlines.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Education and Experience

  • University degree in social sciences, business administration, public administration, law, or related discipline and a minimum of three (3) years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Related experience includes three (3) years in each of:

  • Leading, planning, coordinating and managing complex projects and assignments with multiple components and tight timelines;
  • Providing public policy advice and drafting briefing materials for senior Executives and/or elected officials and/or major stakeholder groups, including briefing notes, estimates notes, and cabinet documents; and
  • Leading, developing and empowering staff, and building and guiding multi-disciplinary teams.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Strategic policy and research experience related to poverty reduction, income support policy, disability policy, employment policy, health policy, or tax policy.

OR

  • Legislation, regulation and/or policy experience related to the BC Employment and Assistance program.
