The Passenger Transportation Enforcement Officer (PTEO) is a BC Peace Officer position that works as part of the Passenger Transportation Branch team to manage the compliance, enforcement activities and associated licencing under the Passenger Transportation Act. This act governs the requirements for anyone involved in or wanting to obtain authority for operating commercial ground passenger transportation services – taxis, limousines, inter-city buses, tour buses for example.
Compliance and enforcement activities include the following:
- Interacting and building relationships with our clients, stakeholders and the public;
- Following up, researching and investigating tips and complaints; roadside enforcement;
- Roadside enforcement, and other independently initiated investigations.
The PTEO regularly collaborates/partners with other compliance and enforcement agencies such as Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement team, local/municipal licencing and policing agencies. PTEO’s may issues warnings, administrative penalties and prosecution notices; they may also delay or detain vehicles and/or drivers and subsequently provide the Registrar with summary reports.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent
- Valid class 5 (minimum) driver’s licence in good standing with no more than 9 points within the last five year period (a drivers abstract will be required
- Experience establishing, building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Experience dealing with urgent and sensitive information which may have an impact on stakeholders
- Experience preparing reports and formal documentation
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience interpreting and applying acts and regulations.
