Title of the position: Cafe Manager

Job duties:

  • Operations
  • Managing all day-to-day operations in the cafe
  • Staff scheduling
  • Beverage and supplies ordering and receiving
  • Setting up systems for FOH operations
  • Balancing budgets and meeting targets consistently including labour, food, etc.
  • Creating and enforcing health & safety standards for all employees and patrons
  • Expediting food and helping the kitchen team with operations when needed
  • Leading bi-weekly manager meetings
  • Leading initiatives to increase sales and profits
  • Assisting Loafe Catering from catering deliveries and pick-ups to working and supervising events
  • Maintaining inventory and par-levels of all smallwares
    • Inventory Control
    • bi-weekly inventory counting
    • data entry
  • troubleshooting
  • presenting the final reports
  • Ensuring beverage recipes are kept up to date
  • Espresso, Non Alcoholic, and Alcoholic Beverage Program
    • Head barista duties
    • Coordinating and executing training for all baristas
    • Maintaining the high quality of our espresso program and every drink produced
    • Maintaining a knowledge of craft beer and wine
    • Curating a rotating selection of unique craft beers and wines
    • Developing and maintaining close relationships with all suppliers especially our coffee roasters and brewery partners
  • Human Resources
    • Leading staff from hiring to training to continued leadership, mentoring and development
    • Regularly and formally reviewing staff performance
    • Holding disciplinary meetings with staff including terminations

Terms of employment: Full-time (minimum 40 hours per week), Permanent

  • Espresso Skills
    • Knowledge of sourcing, roasting, extraction, milk temperatures, and different brewing methods
    • Ability to execute espresso beverages to the highest standard and to train both new and experienced baristas to a consistent high standard
    • Expert-level ability to calibrate espresso grinder, to make adjustments for optimal extraction, and to maintain espresso equipment to the highest standard
  • Alcohol Service
    • Serving it Right Certification is required
    • knowledge of provincial liquor laws and service guidelines
    • In-depth knowledge of craft beer
    • basic knowledge of wine
  • Inventory Control
    • Understanding of inventory control systems and principles
    • Experience with Optimum Control inventory control system is a major asset

Required education: High school diploma

Required work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience as a barista in a high end cafe environment
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Cafe Manager role in a similar establishment
  • Must be experienced in the sale and service of alcohol
