CH&E Specialist, Aboriginal Initiatives Lead Regional Services, GTA Region – Toronto Provincial System Support Program
CAMH’s Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) works with communities, service providers and other partners across Ontario to move evidence to action to create sustainable, system-level change. With offices in Toronto and across the province, PSSP is on the ground collaborating with stakeholders to build a better system through our work in implementation, knowledge exchange, evaluation, information management, health equity and engagement.
The Provincial System Support Program is seeking a First Nation, Inuit or Métis person as the Aboriginal Initiatives Lead for the GTA Region (Toronto office). Reporting to the Regional Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of the GTA Regional Implementation Team. The Aboriginal Initiatives Lead is also an integral part of the Aboriginal Engagement and Outreach (AEO) team, which focuses on building relationships and collaborative partnerships, providing training to support workforce development, advancing culturally relevant systems initiatives, and improving practice through research and knowledge exchange. Responsibilities of this position include sharing information about CAMH’s programs and services with Aboriginal communities, agencies and organizations in the GTA Region, maintaining partner relationships, and sharing back with the AEO team. The Aboriginal Initiatives Lead is the PSSP representative in the region, and provides an important lens in our work with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, agencies and organizations. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, service providers, agencies and organizations, in urban, rural and remote areas. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of community protocols, political structures, cultural practices and impacts of historical events unique to First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The successful incumbent’s clinical experience, work in mental health and addictions, system health knowledge, understanding of health equity, harm reduction, person-centred care and trauma-informed practice will complement this role. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously, contribute to provincial and regional research and clinical initiatives as needed, and work independently, as well as with a diverse team. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Health Promotion, or a related social/health sciences discipline, combined with a minimum of 3 years of related research and/or community development experience, preferably in the mental health and/or social services sector. The incumbent must be a First Nations, Inuit or Métis person with demonstrated community connections. Excellent organization, facilitation, communication, networking, research, evaluation, and presentation skills, along with high computer proficiency are necessary. Candidates also require the ability to work effectively in a wide-range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or the ability to speak an Aboriginal language are considered an asset.
This position requires regular travel throughout the GTA region including remote First Nations communities. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
Please note: This full time/permanent position located in Toronto is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit. Salary Range: $31.88 – $43.01 per hour
