About the Community

The Heiltsuk Nation is a First Nations government in the Central Coast region of British Columbia in the community of Bella Bella. The present-day Heiltsuk (formerly the Bella Bella) are the main descendents of Heiltsuk-speaking peoples who inhabited an area of approximately 6000 sq. miles in the central coastal region of what is today known as British Columbia. An archeological excavation and study of ancient remains based in a Heiltsuk Village site of Namu in the 1960’s and 1970’s concluded that the history of the Heiltsuk go back as far as 11,500 years.

The village of Bella Bella can be found on the east coast of Campbell Island, on the Central Coast region of British Columbia, approximately 180 kilometers north of Port Hardy and 145 kilometers west of Bella Coola. Ideal for any outdoor enthusiast, the area boasts the natural splendour of the Great Bear Rainforest, as well as a range of outdoor activities including fishing, kayaking, camping and whale watching.

About the Opportunity

The Heiltsuk Nation has a great opportunity for a Chief Financial Officer in Bella Bella, British Columbia.

Reporting to the Chief Councilor, the CFO will play a critical role in the development and implementation of the Heiltsuk Nation financial strategy.

To qualify for this senior role, the successful candidate will have at least 5 years experience with financial accounting, budgeting, contract management, grants/contributions, and implementing relevant procedures along with prior experience working with First Nations communities. You will also be required to have completed a professional accounting designation though candidates without a professional accounting designation may be considered should they have an equivalent mix of education and experience.
