They will develop skills and a strong attachment to the workforce that will make them more employable and provide them with greater stability. NPAAMB is currently seeking:
(1) CLASS INSTRUCTOR /COACH MENTOR
For various programs offered
Contract Position: (40 Hours per week; 15 months or until March 31, 2020 with possibility of extension)
Location: St. Catharines AND Various locations across southern Ontario Daily travel to out of town training sites requires commute
NPAAMB in a joint effort with our training partners will facilitate the training of Indigenous youth in hospitality and tourism, healthcare, building and construction trades and life skills development as part of our core delivery of programs. All courses offered are rooted in cultural foundations and Indigenous contexts.
Under the direction of the Programs Manager and Program Director, the blended role of Class Instructor and Coach Mentor will assist the Program Delivery team(s) to deliver in-class course curriculum to achieve learning objectives and outcomes as outlined in lesson plans and to provide ongoing daily support to program participants while enrolled in NPAAMB courses. Coach Mentor responsibilities will include providing ongoing support, advocacy and mentoring to students while enrolled in NPAAMB group based programs. This position is a blended part time Instructor and part time Coach Mentor role that will support NPAAMB across a number of programs.
Performing the functions of the Coach Mentor, you will Act as an advocate for clients/participants in using a variety of coaching methods to increase probability of client completion and success; regularly attend program sites to check-in with each youth individually; assist with problem resolution and identifying solutions to address barriers that may impact client retention.
As Instructor you will provide instructional support and curriculum development assistance that aligns with NPAAMB’s long term strategic plan, the core values of the organization and the Contribution Agreement between NPAAMB and the funders. Course content will include but not limited to: cultural history and identity; job readiness, essential skills development (using the 9 recognized essential skills), trades math, labour market research, self-advocacy and personal development
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
Ontario Teaching Certificate registered with OCT and at least 3 years teaching experience preferred;
Bachelor’s degree in Education: Aboriginal Adult Education; B.Ed and at least 2 years teaching and/or group based facilitation experience and/or College Diploma Child and Youth Studies or similar with at least 3-5 years’ workshop facilitation or;
5-10 years’ experience with design and delivery of group based workshop facilitation
Coaching experience considered an asset
Knowledge of relevant cultural traditions and Indigenous history
Clear criminal record check/ acceptable vulnerable sector check
Certification(s) and/or license(s) appropriate to education industry
Valid driver’s license and access to insured, licenced automobile
Experience developing lesson plans
Understanding of sectors related to any or all of the following: healthcare, construction trades, hospitality and tourism and associated labour market information would be considered an asset
