As a Community Development Advisor you will: lead and engage in community development activities with children/ youth/ community and jurisdictional partners across the province of Ontario, conduct and facilitate meetings, projects and initiatives that inform the services and resources provided by the Advocate’s Office as well as establish and maintain effective service and advisory services to the Director of Strategic Development and the management team. A central aspect of the Community Development position includes extensive community consultation, analysis and reporting on the activities associated with engagement and consultation work and will inform work undertaken by the case and systemic advocacy teams.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the theories and practices of child development, knowledge of programming for children and of funding policies and by assessing effectiveness of programs and compliance with accepted practices through engagement in comprehensive and targeted child/youth and community engagement activities is mandatory. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth Act, Developmental Services Act (DSA), Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), and the Education Act is essential. The job requires knowledge of other legislation and a background in program and policy analysis. The job also requires knowledge of budgeting processes and the system of services available to children and their families in communities across the province in order to connect the voice of children and youth to advocacy efforts across Ontario.
Qualifications: Superior analytical and problem solving skills to assess and provide analysis provided by young people and community resources and advocates on services being provided to children and youth under the CFSA and Education Act by carrying out on-site engagement development strategy and partnership agenda. Analytical skills are needed to formulate recommendations on feedback and data provided at individual and as part of a broader systemic review of community engagement work undertaken by the Advocate’s Office. Job requires effective oral communication skills to explain role of the Advocate’s Office, its legislation and supplemental legislation that shapes the services and resources that bring young people into the care of the system, and effective written communication skills to prepare clear and concise reports on community develop recommendations and findings. Job requires expert level presentation skills to provide information to community groups and liaise with other professionals and government bodies. Job requires interpersonal skills to interview children and youth, parents, service providers, and staff to obtain necessary information and manage relationships when reviewing and making reports associated with youth and community engagement activities. Interpersonal skills are required to encourage voluntary involvement of youth and community in programs or working group activities understating by the Advocate’s Office.

This position is covered by the AMAPCEO Collective Agreement and benefit provisions are consistent with those for unclassified staff under that agreement.
