Community Engagement Coordinator – Term Position (30 hours per week)


The Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the efforts of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte with a Climate Change Adaptation Impact Study.  The CEC will organize meetings and workshops, and other day to day tasks related to the project with the assistance of the Environmental Services Coordinator.  The CEC will work with the project team to develop and use a Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) questionnaire to gather knowledge on changed weather and climate, to obtain knowledge regarding the Bay of Quinte and associated tributaries, land use and fish & wildlife patterns and habitat.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing communication material for the project
  • Organizing workshops and workshop material
  • Developing Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) surveys
  • Conducting interviews with community members
  • Collecting and reviewing TEK
  • Developing climate change impact / vulnerability trees
  • Conducting risk assessment of areas / vulnerabilities identified by the community
  • Developing adaptation recommendations, adaptation plan, and implementation plan for the community
  • Writing quarterly progress reports

Education and Essential Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary education from an accredited College or University, OR equivalent education and experience
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email applications
  • Knowledge of environmental, and climate change issues
  • Indigenous and Community knowledge
  • MUST possess valid Class “G” license, own transportation and proof of valid vehicle insurance
  • Experience in interviewing traditional knowledge holders
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time-management, organization, and prioritization skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner
  • Must be able to provide a Clear Criminal Reference Check
  • Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry
