We currently have an opportunity to join the Laurier community as a Content Marketing Specialist.
The Content Marketing Specialist is responsible for coordinating, writing and editing communication and marketing materials that support a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Enrolment Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, Recruitment & Admissions, the Content Marketing Specialist will lead both digital and print marketing and communications campaigns for both prospective and current students, including: email campaigns, student recruitment publications, website content and social media activities. The incumbent will need to have well demonstrated experience in a writing position with a focus on rhetoric and professional writing as well as technical writing. A proven skill set including a strong attention to detail, proofreading and organizational skills in this position is critical. Well established abilities to liaise with groups and individuals both internal and external to the university. The incumbent will also need to be highly adaptable, with a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work with a diverse group of stakeholders and excel in a fast-paced environment characterized by changing priorities.
This position has a university-wide mandate and is based at the Waterloo Campus. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise to all campuses, requiring regular interpersonal interactions and collaboration with departments at the Waterloo Campus, the Brantford Campus, the Toronto office and external partners. Special attention is given to ensure equitable service delivery across all locations.
Responsible for developing research-based integrated undergraduate recruitment communications content.
Following the key messages and strategic direction set by the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the incumbent will coordinate and write strategic, student-centred undergraduate prospective and current student communications, including but not limited to: print materials, email communications, content on wlu.ca, and in social media campaigns
Uses both internal and external research to make evidence-based decisions on messaging and direction of content with a proven ability to distill complex information into clear, concise text for our key audiences
Maintains a clear understanding of the needs of all audiences at different stages throughout the enrolment management funnel, and the motivations of young people and their parents and other influencers with respect to post-secondary studies in order to enhance the strategies for which the incumbent is responsible for
Support all communications activities within Enrolment Services through collaboration, advising and consulting with internal and external partners.
Works collaboratively with Laurier partners to support activities for recruitment campaigns, admissions materials, email campaigns, conversion activities, presentations, partner conversion activities, and on- and off-campus events
Liaises with the CPAM (Communications, Public Affairs and Marketing) department to coordinate the production of marketing materials, including the optimal way to communicate messages graphically, that all pertinent information is incorporated and accurate
Updates and tracks progress of all projects in a central project management tool to ensure activities and responsibilities progress accordingly towards defined deadlines
Responsible for writing, editing, proofreading and making content suggestions for all marketing and communications activities across Enrolment Services.
Working closely with the Content Specialist and CPAM, this position will ensure that all content is accurate and aligned with the strategy before it is disseminated to our audiences
Researches and presents new communications/story ideas for web/print/social media activities to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, and then follows through with coordinating, writing and executing new ideas
The Content Marketing Specialist will assist with the supervision of occasional student staff throughout the year. In partnership with the Manager, the Content Marketing Specialist will oversee the development of projects to be completed by the student staff. The incumbent will be the primary point of contact for questions and project support and will oversee the day-to-day supervision. The incumbent will provide training, provide direction on projects and facilitate feedback to the student as necessary, while demonstrating a commitment to developing the professional skills of student staff.
University degree in English with a focus on rhetoric and professional writing, or a related field
Experience within the higher education sector preferred
Minimum 2 years of related experience in a communications role, which includes project experience in all mediums including print and digital, social media, video, web and photography
Proven expertise in audience-based persuasive writing skills with particular emphasis on digital and print writing
Successful implementation of information design practices and principles
Experience with the creation and maintenance of shared editorial calendars for project management purposes
Superior command of the English language, with the ability to write in both professional and creative tones as required, and the ability to write effectively and persuasively in multiple mediums with particular emphasis on digital and print writing
Demonstrated analytical, critical, and creative thinking, writing, and speaking skills
Demonstrated superior attention to detail
Experience using evidence-based decision making to develop, coordinate, write, and edit publications
Professional training related to web and social media communications
Self-motivated, organized and able to multi-task and prioritize jobs to meet deadlines
Experience working with designers, film editors, and other content development experts
A diversified resume which includes demonstration of the breadth of skills across all mediums and for different audiences with be required
Technical skill requirements include knowledge of Adobe Suite and HTML and ability to use various Content Management Systems (CMS)
Proven experience measuring the success, impact and reach of print and digital campaigns
Appreciation of diverse perspectives and ability to work with diverse groups including members of the university administration, faculty, staff, students, external suppliers and secondary school staff and administration
Grade : WLUSA-08
Salary : $33.75 – $39.72
Salary Notes : This is a full-time, limited term position until August 31, 2019. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2018.
