Fast-paced roles for highly organized and detail-oriented multi-taskers

Court Services Branch is responsible for the delivery of all court administration services in BC. These consist of registry, trial support and Sheriff Services for all levels of court. The Registry provides the infrastructure to process documents that are required by the court to ensure timely and effective processing of court cases and support to the justice system.

Court Clerk
As a Court Clerk, you bring excellent client service and administrative skills to support all levels of courts in the province.  Confident and comfortable in a court environment, you are responsible for a wide range of in-court duties such as calling the cases, reading charges, taking pleas, taking re-elections, clerking jury selection, and administering oaths or affirmations. Performing pre-court, in court, and post court duties, you interpret documentation in court files to ensure accurate information in processing documents and concluding files.

Skilled in client service, you are  professional when dealing with the public and difficult clients.  You will gain extensive experience in  interacting with the judiciary, members of the legal profession, and justice system partners. You have a good grounding in office administration and  possess the flexibility required to be a good Court Clerk.

Court/Registry Clerk (Combo Clerk)
Flexibility and organization will be key in this role as you provide administrative services to the both the Court and the Registry. Interacting with members of the public, the bar and the judiciary, you will be responsible for pre-/post- and in-court duties including preparing the courtroom and its equipment for court events. Your role will involve managing court files by reviewing them for accuracy; and completing, distributing and interpreting court documents while providing exceptional service to the public.

Providing administrative support to the civil or criminal courts, you will process a variety of documentation required by the court system to accurately reflect court results, primarily by maintaining the computerized case tracking system. You will interact with Crown, Lawyers, Sheriff, Police and other agencies, often interpreting complex documentation in court files in order to process documents accurately. Offering information services to users of the court system and suggesting work-flow and reporting enhancements will also be part of your role. A permanent full-time Court Clerk has a set schedule of 35 hours per week.

A permanent part-time Court Clerk has flexible schedule that can range from 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) up to 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week) after the completion of an initial 6 month (full-time) training period.

Auxiliary appointments for court clerks in Court Services Branch include an initial period of six months of full-time hours for in-service training.  Following the six month period, there are often opportunities for full, and part time positions, particularly at Victoria Courthouse, or continued auxiliary appointments as the operational need arises in Court Services.
