As a branch within the Ministry of Attorney General, Court Services employs approximately 1,300 staff to deliver programs and services at 89 court locations, in person, by telephone, via video and the Internet. The branch’s programs and services include case documentation and adjudication support (i.e. case initiation and processing, fee collection, file and exhibit management, court clerking, court records and transcripts, interpreter services, and the preparation and dissemination of court orders); court and courthouse security and court order enforcement including holding and transporting of prisoners by ground and air from police jails and from federal and provincial correctional facilities; the collection of court fines; and the civil bailiff process. The branch also manages and maintains all courthouse facilities.
In the role of a Court Clerk, you will provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Provincial court as well as Registry duties. Responsibilities include performing pre-court, in-court, and post-court duties and interpreting documentation in court files to ensure accurate information in processing documents and concluding files. You will also be responsible for preparing and checking legal documents for accuracy and completeness; recording Court proceedings; maintaining custody of exhibits and related documentation; interacting and liaising with the Judiciary, members of the legal profession, justice system partners and the public. This position requires an individual who thrives on providing excellent client services in a fast-paced, high volume environment. You have sound judgement, good problem solving skills, and keen attention to accuracy and detail. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent and two (2) years office experience, OR
- One (1) year office experience and a minimum of one (1) year education/training in a legal related field.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education/training and experience may be considered.
- Experience/training in keyboarding, data entry, word processing and standard computer applications.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience with JUSTIN and/or CEIS.
- Experience delivering customer service.
- Experience/training in a court registry
- Experience working as a Court Clerk
- Must be willing to attend and complete relevant training programs.
- May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations.
- Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
- May be required to work flexible hours, including varied day shifts and overtime on short notice.
