Through Indspire’s K-12 Institute, it provides resources to educators, communities, and other stakeholders who are committed to improving kindergarten to grade 12 success for Indigenous youth. Since its inception in 1985, Indspire has disbursed almost $79 million through close to 25,000 scholarships and bursaries to Indigenous students, making it the largest funder of Indigenous education outside the federal government. Each year, the organization presents the Indspire Awards, a gala celebration of the successes achieved by Indigenous people that is broadcast nationally.

Collaborate as a key member of the Development Team in making decisions to support the growth of an exciting $9M annual campaign to realize its full potential in generating revenue for all Indspire programs.

As part of the Development team, the Development Officer, Donor Services will report to the Associate Director, Individual Giving and play a key role in the creation and expansion of programs, events and activities to actively engage donors, sponsors, volunteers, laureates and other stakeholders in the work of the organization, to enhance the success of Indspire’s fundraising programs and initiatives.

The position responsibilities of the Development Officer, Donor Services include:

Key Duties

  • Works in consultation with the VP, Development and Directors to plan and execute donor cultivation and stewardship activities for all donors, sponsors and supporters and ensures that excellent stewardship is practiced across the organization.
  • Establishes and manages information tracking processes regarding acknowledgement, recognition, on-going communications and continued cultivation of past and current major donors to enhance their relationship with Indspire and increase the likelihood of continued and growing contributions.
  • Ensures that details of stewardship plans are compiled and communicated to all involved parties across the organization.
  • Builds strong relationships with colleagues in the Education and Finance to collect data and stories to enhance Impact reports to donors and sponsors.
  • Receives and tracks all RSVPs, invitations and responds to all inquiries related to development special events and receptions and ensures that all invitees and attendees of events are recorded in the database.
  • Works closely with Communications & Marketing as Development team liaison on events, website and materials related to fundraising, sponsorship, and stewardship including sponsor receptions, stewardship and cultivation events, Indspire Awards pre and post receptions, and conferences.
  • Acts as the key contact for all external third party fundraising initiatives and proactively grows the program by providing tools, materials, support and education to expand this revenue stream.
  • Works closely with the Development team to support corporate sponsor employee engagement opportunities in Indspire programs and operations, including working with other departments and staff to identify and promote volunteer opportunities to increase Indspire alumni and volunteer participation and financial support.
  • Ensures that all Development related web pages and materials (proposals, promotional pieces, presentations, letter templates) are accurate and updated regularly.
  • Creates and maintains all lists and reports required from the database or other sources for all development related activities and ensures key Indspire staff have an opportunity to review proposed event lists and that they provide additional contacts to be considered.
  • Develops queries, reports and pulls data and maintains knowledge of and trains all staff on database as needed.
  • Works with the Education department to develop and execute development specific programs and activities designed to build strong relationships with current and former Indspire scholarship/bursary recipients to build a network of people that can assist as volunteers and speakers at Indspire events across the Canada.
  • Tracks volunteer activities and engagement in the database.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Post-secondary education plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a non-profit organization or in a similar environment.
  • Basic knowledge of fundraising principles and experience working with fundraising software and/or contact databases is a requirement.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service and administrative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Able to work and interact with a diversity of donors, sponsors, prospects and volunteers.
  • Collaborative team player who takes initiative.
  • Able to work quickly, efficiently and accurately with an attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Occasional travel between Six Nations and Toronto offices is required.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in French is an asset.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends and possess a willingness to travel within Canada.
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous community is an asset.
