Director, Finance

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Finance will be responsible for the overall integrity of all financial processes for the administration in its entirety, acting as a principal financial advisor to the Tyendinaga Mohawk Council (TMC). The Director, Finance will manage all financial administrative functions of the organization including the continued growth of the economic development and clean energy portfolio.

The Director, Finance will be responsible for the preparation of the budgets for MBQ’s Annual Business Plan and will oversee a team of five (5), including Accounts Receivable, Payable, and Payroll. Being the MBQ’s head Financial Officer, duties will include the reviewing, developing, and monitoring of existing and new financial policies and procedures as well as monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of all ongoing MBQ financial processes. This includes preparation, analysis and advice on business decision processes, annual budgeting, external reporting and audits.

The ability, desire, and commitment to mentor and train staff while building capacity is a major component of this position, as well as enhancing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as governments, financial institutions, and the preparation of yearend consolidated audit and other related yearend audit reports.

The Candidate

As the ideal candidate, you will be an enthusiastic, hands-on, team player with a passion for financial efficiency and standards. Holding a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) or Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) designation, you are a seasoned financial professional who brings a minimum of 8 years of related experience.

With demonstrated strategic management skills, you are an innovative thinker who can ensure MBQ is current with best practices and responding to the on-going financial requirements of the community. You will support the development and implementation of the organizational strategy while communicating a vision and supporting the goals of both the TMC and MBQ management groups.
