Reporting to the VP of Shared Services, support them in implementing the department’s objectives by providing leadership, direction, and supervision to the Helicopter Operations staff
Develop Helicopter Services goals/objectives/strategies. Oversee of the Hydro One aviation safety system and program, helping to ensure a strong safety culture is engrained throughout all areas of the organization. Develop strategic initiatives to drive operational excellence and best practices, operating model, governance, policies and procedures, industry best practices and innovation.
The Director, Helicopter Services will report directly to the VP Share Services and will be required to:
Develop and implements a strategic operating model that drives a safety culture that integrates business processes changes across various lines of business
Develops and implements an innovative risk assessment process that leverages industry best practice Develop and implements policies and procedures that enhances safety and operational excellence
Develops a governance model that complies to Transport Canada and other aviation agencies
Develops a strategic 5 year roadmap identifying opportunities for people, process and technology
Develop an asset replacement strategy that identifies new innovative helicopter fleet that compliments Hydro One’s current work program requirements and meets the needs for future work program requirements
Develop a resource and succession plan for all key positions within Hydro One Helicopter Operations
Develop a comprehensive training & development plan for all key positions within Helicopter Operations
Develop a tactical Helicopter Services Strategy with a strong emphasis on safety and operations optimization.
Oversee decision analysis support related to current costs and trends; cost/benefit studies relating to management systems, costs and utilization of equipment, maintenance guidelines and department related policies; and statistical summaries.
Oversee Helicopter operations and maintenance and drives a culture of continuous improvement
Oversee the Aviation Safety Management System and the aviation safety for the end to end delivery of the program.
Develop business program in determining a comprehensive strategy that will drive value for both customers and shareholders.
Prepare reports relative to performance, productivity, business planning and control for the department.
Provided advice and support to Hydro One Remote Communities and their fixed wing aviation program.
Determine and recommend complex organizational and management change initiatives working with both internal stakeholders (lines of business) and external stakeholders.
Work with external aviation personnel and organizations such as other utilities, aviation vendors and associations, suppliers of information processing, to influence and adopt a course of action to one suitable to the company on issues associated with managing and benchmarking issues.
Work and collaborate with various units, such as business unit/divisional/corporate comptrollership groups, to influence and adopt a course of action on issues surrounding business planning and budget.
Liaise with key stakeholders such as senior leadership in operations to build relationships; address and resolve any conflicts and providing clear direction to issues pertaining to helicopter operations.
Keep abreast of new and innovative aviation developments within the marketplace.
Provide visible leadership to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
Promote an inclusive and diverse workforce that is conducive to high level learning and encourages continuous learning.
Minimum 10 years of supervisory or managerial experience in the Aviation Industry.
Effective decision maker with a track record demonstrating innovation and result oriented leadership, fiscal accountability, and customer service orientation.
Proven leadership skills which include planning, organizing, and controlling departmental activities.
Strong business acumen with a focus in Aviation Operations and Aviation maintenance.
Requires an understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards and Transport Canada guidelines.
Requires an understanding of Corporate Safety Rules, Occupational Health and Safety Act and legislative requirements, Work Protection Code, environmental issues affecting the Corporation.
Excellent negotiating and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrates a strong safety culture and a drive for continuous improvement
Demonstrates a passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement
Experience in leading transformation and implementing business process improvements
Experience in developing a team and driving employee engagement
