District Program Engineer

Salary $62,670.41 – $81,718.99 annually
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification, for under implementation as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT).
The District is responsible for the provision of a safe, reliable highway system through the effective management of district highway rehabilitation and highway maintenance programs and the provision of local support to capital construction projects undertaken in the District.
Under the direction of the District Manager, Transportation, the District Program Engineer, exercises considerable independence developing and maintaining the multiyear District program and managing concurrent highway construction projects. The District Program Engineer supervises the Development Approvals section and provides technical expertise to support decisions on the approval or rejection of applications for land development, zoning bylaws, accesses and works within highway right of way. The position has the authority to approve all Highway Act approvals and the authority to negotiate strategies that affect the local highway system.
Due to the scope and complexity of traffic, planning, rehabilitation and other issues associated with this position, professional initiative is expected. The incumbent is required to maintain a state-of-the-art knowledge of planning, traffic and safety engineering within the industry. Qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by the professional association.
- Must be registered or immediately* eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC). *Immediately eligible means you a registered professional Engineer, member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction that can be immediately transfer to APEGBC).
- At least two years of experience as a Professional Engineer in the field of civil engineering
