The Ministry of Health (MoH) has accountability to monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of the BC health system. It also has an accountability to develop health system policy and then to support its implementation through monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. This requires leveraging insights from health administrative data through cross-sector and area-specific analysis. The Health Sector Information, Analysis and Reporting Division provides business intelligence insights and tools to support MoH in strategic and operational priorities, which includes manage high quality data from Ministry-held and external data sources and perform integrated analyses of service use and projections.

In the Senior Economist role, you are responsible for leading economic and statistical analyses including providing expertise in the development of methodologies and modeling, the coordination and integration of statistical information to support the Ministry and strategic planning and monitoring of the provincial health care system; this includes the direct supervision of health economists and analysts engaged in the preparation of a wide range of reports and analyses used to assess current and future government programs and policies or answer key questions. As the Senior Economist, you provide advice to policy makers based on expertise in the areas of modeling, statistics, analysis and evaluation. You also lead economic and statistical analyses relating to the use and cost of health care, including development of predictive models of health services utilization and analysis of the feasibility and impact of options to control utilization and cost.

With your excellent oral and written communication skills, as the Senior Economist you demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with a variety of ministry staff and external stakeholders. Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Master’s Degree in Economics or closely related field such as statistics, commerce, or mathematics and a minimum of 2 years of recent relevant experience*.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or closely related field such as statistics, commerce, or mathematics and a minimum of 4 years of recent relevant experience*.

*Recent relevant experience must include:

  • Experience analyzing complex problems.
  • Experience developing applied statistical modeling and conducting and leading major statistical/economic studies and research projects of considerable complexity.
  • Experience in coding (e.g.: using SAS, SQL, R, or Python).
  • Experience preparing written reports and providing expert advice and recommendations to senior management and executive.
  • Statistical research experience. (Preference may be given to applicants with statistical research experience related to healthcare or public health issues.)

Preference may be given to applicant who have:

  • Experience leading and managing projects from initiation to project completion and evaluation.
  • Experience working in the health sector.
