Working closely with the Rainbow Centre, Centre for Women & Trans People, Association of Black Students, Muslim Students’ Association, and Multi-Faith Resource Team, the Diversity & Equity Office
engages actively in the following core areas, providing leadership through: i) support and advocacy, ii) education and activism, and iii) research and policy development. The Education and Inclusion Coordinator supports the Diversity & Equity Office’s role to create a culture of inclusion on campus through educational equity, which includes elements such as learning events, training sessions and the development of awareness campaigns and educational resources.
Using extensive knowledge of adult education principles and best practices in employee development and student leadership development the coordinator must be self-motivated, creative and comfortable delivering information to a variety of audiences. They must also demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, self-management and problem-solving skills.
This position has a university-wide mandate and is based at the Waterloo Campus and will be working in coordination with multi-campus employee counterpart. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise, requiring regular interpersonal interactions and collaboration with departments at the Waterloo Campus, the Brantford Campus, the Toronto office and external partners.
The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to programming and events. When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
Accountabilities : Diversity and Equity Education Development & Implementation
Serves as a resource for the development of all student, staff and faculty diversity, equity and social justice related training initiatives at Wilfrid Laurier University;
Continually gathers feedback from the Laurier community about education needs and conducts appropriate learning gap analysis to develop a diversity education strategy and applicable learning objectives;
Develops all diversity related programming for staff and faculty;
Partners with existing learning resources on campus to incorporate diversity-related content into existing programs as appropriate;
Assists with the development and delivery of student leader training sessions;
Undertakes efforts to build community awareness of diversity through education-related initiatives;
Invests in building positive working relationships with members of the Laurier community in support of the overall Diversity & Equity Office mandate;
Serves as an education resource for faculty on campus in issues relating to diversity and equity in academic programming;
Administration & Related Duties
Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all diversity education initiatives;
Coordinates logistics for training sessions;
Sources and contracts with external speakers and presenters as required;
Tracks participation for all education initiatives;
Compiles feedback related to workshops/training sessions;
Serves on committees related to diversity & equity issues;
Supports and provides administrative support to all student employees;
Support for Student Groups and Staff
Provide direct supervision to centers (i.e. Rainbow Centre, Centre for Women & Trans People, Muslim Students’ Association & Association of Black Students) within the Diversity & Equity Office. This includes attending meetings/ events, helping organize programming, and providing on-going feedback;
Regular meetings with coordinators, student interns, and /or student groups to keep abreast of any student group needs and upcoming programming;
Assists with the development and delivery of student leader training sessions, education programs, and addressing equity-related concerns within the Laurier community;
Organize and facilitate special event planning for groups within the Diversity & Equity Office;
Developing and overseeing the Diversity Certificate (peer-to-peer workshop series);
Guest lectures upon request
Undergraduate degree, plus one (1) year related experience
Experience with diversity, equity, and social justice focused program development and design and group facilitation
Knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity and social justice related issues
Experience supporting, mentoring and developing student leaders
Strong group facilitation skills
Strong understanding of post-secondary educational context
Strong experience working with students, faculty and staff in the area of diversity, equity, and social justice
Knowledge of best practices in training and development
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Time management skills
Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment
Experience facilitating workshops and/or programming dealing with difficult content
Grade : WLUSA-08 Salary : $33.33 to $39.23 per hour Salary Notes : This is a full-time, limited term position until December 21, 2018.
This position is represented by the WLU Staff Association bargaining unit.
