Within the Sector Strategy and Corporate Planning, the Private Training Institution Branch (PTIB) is responsible for regulating and monitoring private training institutions in British Columbia.

Private training institutions in BC enroll over 48,000 students annually in a wide range of programs at over 300 certified institutions.   To operate in BC, private training institutions are required to hold a certificate issued by PTIB and meet requirements outlined in the Private Training Act and associated regulations.

PTIB works with other regulatory and government bodies, both provincially and federally, to ensure ongoing student protection and quality education standards. PTIB also manages a fund which is used to compensate students misled by an institution or affected by a closure.

The Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing private training institutes’ financial statements to ensure they are compliant with regulatory requirements, for the collection and input of relevant information into the Branch’s risk assessment framework and for the analysis and interpretation of financial trends as they relate to specific institutions or the private training sector as a whole.    The Financial Analyst may also oversee the the processing of student claims during large closures.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Diploma in business (accounting emphasis), or completion of a Financial Management Certificate Program.
  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in a regulatory environment applying legislation, regulations, policies and processes.
  • OR a an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preference may be given to candidates who have recent experience in any of the following:

  • Application of general finance and administration policies and processes, financial reporting, financial systems and controls.
  • Experience developing financial reports.
  • Business case analysis and financial statement preparation and analysis.
