Forest Protection Technician
Annual Salary: $54,414.97 – $62,042.70
The Forest Service is responsible for ensuring that the use of forests to generate economic benefits is balanced with the long-term health and sustainability of the forest and range resources. To help ensure the forest will continue to contribute to a strong forest economy, the ministry prevents and suppresses wildfire to protect natural resource inventories and investments on both the Crown and private land base.
The protection of Crown forest and range assets and infrastructure, and the assistance given to rural communities to combat wildland fire, requires a coordinated and consultative approach by the ministry with many stakeholders. These include the oil and gas community, First Nations, guide outfitters, cattle and range associations, local and regional governments, the forest industry and the general public.
The Forest Protection Technician is an advanced technical position that assists the development, implementation, co-ordination, administration and maintenance of the Wildfire Management Branch within a Fire Zone.
Qualifications for this role include:
⦁ University Degree or Technical School graduation from a recognized program in a related field including Land or Resource Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
⦁ Completion of, or commitment to complete, courses as required by Fireline Certification Program (FCP) for certification as Incident Commander 3, including:
271/S-272/S-275/S-281/S-283/S-290/ S-360/ S-390/ I200/ I300/ M251/ Strike Team Leader Camp or equivalent/ Incident Commander IV Camp or equivalent;
⦁ Prefer E100/I400/S350/S400/S470/S590/S340/S346
⦁ Considerable experience in wildfire suppression, control and command:
⦁ Considerable experience in supervision of field crews
⦁ Current certification as an Incident Commander Type 3 or equivalent
⦁ Prefer certification as an Incident Commander Type 2 or equivalent
⦁ Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
