About the District of Tofino

Your New Role
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Public Works, you will be responsible for the supervision of Public Works employees, maintaining District facilities and fleet, infrastructure, material purchasing, safety and will work with managers and employees to coordinate operational and maintenance schedules.
More specifically, you will provide direction and support to team members in the performance of their duties, as required, to meet service expectations, departmental goals and objectives. You will also coordinate small infrastructure repairs and upgrades and liaise with consultants and contractors on capital projects.
To qualify for this role, you will have a diploma from a technical school, be certified with the WHMIS and have a minimum of 5 years full-time experience within a Municipal Operations Department or related works and services environment. Our ideal candidate will also have a minimum of three years full-time experience as a Foreman, directly supervising and leading a team of employees. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Our ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret and evaluate data relevant to the operation and implementation of any necessary operational changes, resolve conflict and deal tactfully with the public, staff, elected officials, outside agencies and businesses and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including Council.
You will also possess extremely strong leadership skills, decision-making skills, the ability to react to any emergency situations in a competent manner, knowledge of modern water and wastewater treatment principles, practices, methods and procedures, the ability to operate and maintain a variety of water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and a high level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
Please note, this role will require you to be on-call on a rotational basis.
