All offers of employment will be subject to the provision that the successful incumbent provides the YMCA of
Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford with a current and satisfactory Police Records Check. Positions responsible for
the direct supervision of children and/or vulnerable persons will be required, in addition to a Police Records
Check, to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening Report at the time of hire.

Reporting to the Program Manager this position provides supervision and coaching to members, staff and volunteers within all Health and Wellness programs and service areas ensuring program excellence. The Health and Wellness Supervisor participates as a member of the Health, Fitness & Aquatics team. The core function of this position is program planning and implementation, customer service, staff and volunteer recruitment, training, and performance management. This role will oversee all health and wellness programming, specialized health/LiveWell programs, and group fitness. Hours of work will vary including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays based on rotational schedule and arranged in advance; emphasis of this position will be on direct program development/delivery and statistical tracking, facility supervision and the provision of excellent customer service through relationship building strategies.

Please note that this position requires the successful incumbent to be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, school breaks and holidays dependent on program needs.

Accountabilities :

  • Responsible for the development, scheduling and delivery of Health and Wellness programs including fitness consultations, workshops, member engagement activities, personal training, and small group training
  • Responsible for LiveWell programs for special populations and collaboration with hospital partners
  • Responsible for Group Fitness programs and scheduling approximately 50 classes a week
  • Recruitment, training, and mentoring of all staff and volunteer team members for the purpose of delivering excellence in customer service through Health and Wellness programs and services
  • Support excellence in service in opening new state of the art Laurier Brantford YMCA
  • Development and maintenance of the Health and Wellness budget
  • Maintenance of current status of all required qualifications and certifications for self and Health and Wellness team members using internal and/ or central data tools
  • Works as an active member of the Branch Leadership Team with scheduled Team Leader shifts/ responsibilities
  • Provide direct leadership in programs modeling/ mentoring service excellence
  • Supports and assists in the delivery of branch initiatives including Member and Volunteer Recognition and the Strong Kids Campaign
  • Ensures that program policies and procedures are implemented and monitored proactively

Qualifications :

  • YMCA Fitness Leadership Certification with specialization in Aquafit and Group Fitness with the ability to teach step/cyclefit/core and other group classes
  • 2 years post secondary education in Physical and Health Education or a related field, or 2 years related experience
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPRC
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Personal training certification is an asset
  • Must provide a current police records check as per the Association’s policy
  • Experience in coordinating and scheduling using microsoft excel
