We have a great opportunity for a Health Manager to identify and implement strategies to support the integration of health services between the Whitecap Dakota First Nation (WDFN) and the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR).
Working in accordance with the vision, mission and strategic directions of both partners, the Health Manager will be responsible for all health and social-related administrative functions, program and policy development, personnel duties and staffing. The Health Manager will also focus on supporting primary health and chronic disease management quality improvement initiatives and project/programs, based on Whitecap’s Community Heath Plan.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Located at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and reporting to the WDFN Council through the General Manager, the key duties will include:
- Supporting the administration, development, implementation, evaluation and management of Health and Social Development Programs according to the Whitecap Community Health Plan and the Health Transfer Agreement
- Planning, developing and monitoring the Health and Social Development funding budget
- Preparing and initiating funding proposals and coordinating fundraising activities
- Developing and maintaining a needs assessment and database for Community Health Planning
- Working with the SHR, Health Canada, and other partners through Whitecap Health Technical Committee
- Planning and organizing staff and community workshops on Health and Social Development issues
- Planning and organizing Health & Social Development meetings (Community, Committee, etc.)
- Maintaining an advisory role to First Nation Directors and Council regarding Health and Social Development issues
- Creating and fostering a team approach to a quality workplace environment through team development, teaching and facilitation Ensuring that all documentation and reporting for the Health and Social Development Program is completed
- Working with the Councillor responsible for coordinating health programming issues for the Councillor’s Members’ Advisory Committee
- Provide monthly program and financial activity reports to SHR and WDFN Council
- Making presentations at Council meetings regarding health and social concerns, as required
- Other duties and assignments as directed by Council and SHR
For this role, we are seeking someone with a post-secondary degree in Health Sciences or Human Services discipline such as B.S.W., or Public Administration. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing is considered an asset, as is current registration with the SRNA (or eligible for SRNA registration). In addition, the successful candidate will also demonstrate:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in management of Health and Social Development programming with First Nation experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop, assess, implement and evaluate strategies to meet Community Health and Social Development needs
- Professional experience working effectively with First Nation individuals, groups, families, and communities would be an asset
- Awareness of First Nation values, culture and traditions
- Effective written and oral skills; excellent documentation and record keeping skills; working knowledge of PC software applications
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle and,
- Must have a clear CPIC (Canadian Criminal Records Check)
With well-developed communication skills, you will act as a role model for the organization and foster a culture of improvement and trust, open communication, reflection, evaluation, growth, and development. With working knowledge of change management concepts, group process, community and partnership development, you will also demonstrate strong conflict management skills.
