Located on the shores of Kings Bay and Queens Bay, on the western side of Victoria Island, The Hamlet of Ulukhaktok is the most easterly Inuvialuit community. With a population of approximately 450 people, the municipal corporation provides the community with recreational programs, water/waste services, by-law enforcement, as well as road and airport maintenance services.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Heavy Duty Technician to join our team in the Northwest Territories on a full-time, three-year term.

Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer, you’ll be responsible for carrying out, administering and supervising all mobile equipment maintenance and repair of Hamlet vehicles and equipment.

To succeed in this role, you’ll have an Interprovincial Heavy Equipment Mechanics license or Interprovincial Automotive Mechanics license, combined with five years diesel and heavy equipment experience. Capable of carrying out preventative maintenance and repairs on all municipal equipment and vehicles, you’ll also be willing and able to train apprentices, as well as develop preventative maintenance policies and safety training.

Most importantly, you’ll demonstrate knowledge of equipment inspection procedures, workplace safety requirements, as well as record keeping systems. In addition, you’ll also have:

  • A valid class 5 drivers’ license;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Effective communication and listening skills;
  • The ability to make sound decisions;
  • Effective time management and stress management skills;
  • Mathematical abilities.
