Indigenous Youth Mental Health and Wellness Worker – Fulltime Position


The Indigenous Youth Mental Wellness Worker is directly responsible to the Director of Community Wellbeing.  They will work collaboratively with members of the teams from Ohahase and HOPE, community and other programs to ensure all secondary students receive support and wholistic care; support students to maintain their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing; offer guidance and support to programs in the community; to encourage and build supports with outside agencies for referral purposes and to build resources.  This worker will service youth who are currently enrolled with the Ohahase and HOPE School.

The Youth Mental Health and Wellness Worker will work full time consisting of 40 hours per week which will be irregular hours and will require evening and/or weekend work.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work preferred or
  • Diploma in Social Service Work program or Diploma in Humanities
  • Two years direct counseling experience required
  • Must be registered, or willing and able to register, with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or another acceptable governing body
  • Understanding of and being trauma informed
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Have a clear vulnerable sector check
  • Knowledge of counseling theories and practices
  • Possess a valid G driver license, a clear driver abstract, vehicle insurance & reliable vehicle
  • Ability to be insured for driving MBQ vehicles
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly as well as part of a Team
  • Competent in high stress management and crisis situations
  • Knowledge and strong interest in Mohawk culture and traditions
  • Understanding of cultural diversity on Territory
  • Ability to incorporate culturally appropriate techniques in healing
  • Ability to be creative and flexible
  • High degree of initiative, insight and self-direction
  • Excellent computer based skills, MSOffice, email, internet
  • Willing to continue skills/professional development to meet program needs
