Overview of Responsibilities:

Life Promotions Coordinator will provide quality recreation and physical activity opportunities for community members of Shawanaga First Nation under the Healthy Active Shawanaga (HAS) Project.


  • Plan, schedule, organize, advertise and conduct recreational, athletic, fitness and sports activities
  • Offer consistent approach to regular programming to allow habits to form
  • Work with a volunteer committee tied to awareness, physical activity and overall healthier lifestyles
  • Follow Fundamentals for Life & Canada’s Physical Activity Guidelines
  • Assemble, maintain, and repair sports and game equipment
  • Instruct/lead groups and individuals in recreational/ leisure programs
  • Provide lifestyle awareness workshops
  • Monitor recreational, sports or fitness activities to ensure safety and provide emergency or first aid assistance when required
  • Complete reporting to funder
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Maintain records and prepare reports, assessments
  • Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education or training in recreation or physical education; OR Grade 12 or G.E.D. equivalency
  • Experience in recreational and sports program activity
  • Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle/Good Role Model
  • Valid “G” driver’s license
  • Ability to advertise events
  • Knowledge of computers (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher)
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Friendly, outgoing, energetic
  • Flexible work schedule and available to work evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to Train
