This position is currently located in Burnaby but will be moved to Coquitlam within the term of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position but at a lower classification.

The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Youth Justice and Forensic Services of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing ‘On site’, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities. The Maples target population consists of troubled youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and/or behavioural and/or emotional difficulties, ages 12 to 17; as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or Unfit to Stand Trial under the Criminal Code of Canada & Youth Criminal Justice Act. Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

In your role as Forensic Psychologist, you will be responsible for completion of independent comprehensive psychological assessments of youth with significant and complex behavioral, trauma, developmental, attachment and psychiatric challenges referred to the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre for development of a CarePlan. As well, upon request and as caseload permits, provide clinical consultation to program staff.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Licensed Psychologist 6A (PEA);
  • Registered, in the process of registration or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia;
  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology*, preferably from a Canadian Psychological Association or American Psychological Association accredited program;
  • Specific, supervised, and comprehensive education and training in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology;
  • One (1) year experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology;
  • Previous supervised Psychological Assessment experience with Children and Youth and use of current Psychological Assessment instruments;
  • Successful completion of a Psychological Pre or Post-Doctoral Internship of 1600 hours in a Child and Youth Mental Health or hospital setting with specialization.

NOTE*: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).
NOTE: Candidates who have not yet completed their Ph.D and/or who are not registered with the College of Psychologists may be considered at a lower classification and placed in the BCGEU until all requirements have been completed. As a condition of continued employment, you will be required to become registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.
