The main purpose of the Structural Design Section is to provide operational highway structural engineering services, technical advice, and management expertise.  As well, the Structural Design Section provides operational expertise and field experience for the setting of standards and guidelines for the design of highway structures in BC.

The main purpose of this job is to develop, lead, and implement a structural design program, including determining how design projects will be delivered, and supervising a team of licensed professionals and technical staff.

Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:


  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent post-secondary degree
  • Must be registered, or *immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC *Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer your current membership from another Canadian jurisdiction to a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. If required, ensuring eligibility is the responsibility of the applicant and must be confirmed before an offer of employment can be made.


  • A minimum of 7 years of related experience
  • Experience participating in highway structural design and construction of projects of considerable scope and complexity
  • Experience supervising and/or providing direction to staff or project teams
  • Experience working with, and providing advice and counsel to, senior management and executives; and building effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
