The Seed Resource Specialist is a licensed professional and provincial expert working in Forest Improvement and Research Management (FIRM) Branch headquarters in Victoria, reporting to a senior licensed professional (LSO4). In this important role, you are the provincial authority and lead on the management and development of complex corporate information systems, applications and projects to maintain and enhance the information on tree seed used for seedling production to reforest crown land in BC. As the Ministry’s seed resource specialist you will provide professional and technical expertise in support of the development and implementation of provincial regulations, standards and policies that govern the use of all tree seed used for Crown land reforestation, tree breeding, seed planning and related subjects. You will be collaborating with a diversity of stakeholders at all levels in government, industry, and academia as well as small businesses and private land owners.

Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant professional association.
Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals or the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists.
A minimum of 3 years, but prefer 5 years’ experience in a role that includes:
applying knowledge of forest stewardship, including application of the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) and its regulations and standards to forest genetics management and reforestation activities in BC.
applying knowledge of tree improvement; seed production, collection, processing and management; seedling production, vegetative propagation; and reforestation activities.
skills in conducting detailed data analysis using MS Access, Excel, SQL, basic GIS analysis, and preparation of written technical reports, within deadlines.
experience with the information systems used for seed planning and registration in BC.
Prefer experience with the complexities of information systems development
Prefer experience designing, developing and delivering presentations for workshops and conferences.
