Aggregate Terrain Geoscientist

The main purpose of the Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Section is to provide support, technical and management expertise for highway planning, embankment and slope stability assessment, foundation design, geological hazards, aggregate resource management and, development of standards, specifications and procedures for geotechnical investigation, design and construction monitoring.

The Aggregate Resource Management group is responsible for organizing, leading, and managing teams comprised of professional, technical, administrative and contracted resources to supply aggregate materials to facilitate the delivery of Regional Capital, Rehabilitation, District and Partnerships Projects as well as Provincial Road and Bridge Maintenance Contracts.  The Aggregate Management Program ensures that an adequate quantity and quality of gravel and quarry resources are available to meet the Ministry of Transportation’s current and future needs, in the right locations and timeframes, considering societal costs. This group also acts as the regional resource in the furtherance of Aggregate Resource Management expertise throughout the Province.

In this position you will ensure that bridges, roadways and related structures are constructed according to designs, standards and specifications and procedures established by the MoTI and provide expert advice to the Ministry in terrain evaluation, aggregate resource evaluation and design standards.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • Master’s degree in an applied geoscience discipline with 3 years related experience following completion of degree; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applied geoscience field and 5 years of related experience following completion of the bachelor’s degree;
  • Candidate must be registered as a geoscientist, or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.

Experience:

  • Technical experience in work associated with civil, geotechnical or geological engineering, preferably related to highway construction, rehabilitation and project management, managing road design, and construction or repair projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Contract and Project Management experience.

Please include your registration number with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia) within your application as you must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a fully licensed Registered Geologist (P.Geo.) with the AssociationIf you are not yet registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a fully licensed Registered Geologist member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to Engineers and Geoscientists BC).
