About Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation

The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation is located near scenic Gold River, and the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations is a member nation of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council which spans all Nuu-chah-nulth-aht peoples. The Mowachaht are originally from Yuquot on Nootka Sound, known as Friendly Cove.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Manager of Lands and Economic Development to join the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation in Tsaxana.

In this senior leadership role, you will manage and coordinate the responsible, sustainable and effective management of MMFN’s territory, including lands, water, air and all the resources within, above and below. This role will require a candidate that will work closely with the Council of Chiefs and hold a high regard and respect for MMFN culture, practices, history and traditions.

For this role, we are seeking someone with strong experience in a senior management role, preferably in a First Nation environment.

Our ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of applications
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of resource planning and management, and land management issues and legislation affecting First Nations
  • Ability to manage projects and staff
  • Experience with developing policies and procedures
  • A Valid Driver’s Licence

Similarly, strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential. As a reliable, respectful and assertive leader, you will focus on building strong working relationships with all staff, neighbouring First Nations and Federal and Provincial enforcement agencies, while upholding and enforcing internal policies and procedures, as required. Above all, you will be a community-oriented and approachable professional with strong leadership skills.
