Meter & Relay Services Quality Technician

General Accountabilities:

  • Test, modify, repair, calibrate, program and perform final inspection on gas relays as well as protection and control equipment such as Electromechanical relays, IEDs, NERC CIP equip, and Telecom equipment.
  • Utilize shop test apparatus and semi-automated test consoles to troubleshoot and perform functionality tests electrically.
  • Perform multiple miscellaneous technical assignments simultaneously.  These include prescribed acceptance tests on complex protective and control relays, gas relays, telecom equipment.
  • Requires extensive knowledge and experience in board level repair, testing procedures, gas relay functionality, and related equipment and procedures.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge:

  • Requires knowledge of electronics, electrical theory, mechanics, physics and related mathematics related to the operation and to test, repair and modify protection and control relays.
  • Requires practical experience, including successful completion of prescribed modules of the Hydro One protection and metering training program.
  • Requires experience related to trouble-shooting, testing, repairing, modifying and repairing protection and control relays, indicating and graphic instruments, and other such equipment.
  • Requires frequent intermittent periods of operating keyboard equipment and telecommunications equipment daily with occasional standing, bending and walking to perform other duties.
  • Requires occasional periods of moderate physical activities, such as walking, climbing, reaching, bending and carrying heavy relays and recorders to and from test stations, work areas and stockroom in order to perform tests and repair and service various instruments and relays.
  • Requires frequent periods of sustained duration during the performance of most duties, such as the phases of testing, repairing, modifying and calibrating equipment and complex relays.
