Accountabilities include operation and management of Hydro One assets both in real time and near term.
Responsible for developing teamwork with peers and developing a teamwork environment with subordinates.
Responsible to carry out full management duties and provide leadership expertise related to the administration of assigned personnel possibly in a 7/24 shift environment.
Provide staff members with appropriate knowledge, skill set, work procedures and equipment to drive responsible behavior for a safe and healthy work environment.
Supervise staff; organize resource work requirements for unionized staff.
Provide guidance and recommendations on personnel issues such as staff changes, promotions, hiring, firing and maintain discipline.
Understand changing department workload requirements and initiate measures to maintain operating efficiency.
Challenge current processes and methodologies providing innovative ideas and solutions.
Manage the Section and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through:
Listening, understanding, and responding appropriately when interacting with individuals and groups.
Motivating, driving staff and the unit to excel against a standard of excellence.
Providing direction and holding others accountable as required within the authority of the position.
Proactively taking action and not simply thinking about possible future actions.
Conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinates to build relationships and trust, and to improve overall effectiveness.
Must be able to thrive in stressful situations.
Must be willing to work shift work in a 7/24 environment. Certain shifts may be eligible for a shift premium.
Requires familiarity with the Ontario electricity market and structure.
Requires extensive knowledge of electrical theory related to operating transmission and distribution electrical power systems and equipment including knowledge of ESA 22/04 regulations as they apply to distributions systems.
Experience working with unionized collective agreements.
Requires a thorough knowledge of the OH&S Act & Regulations for the Province of Ontario.
Requires knowledge of Energy Management Systems, Network Management Systems or Advanced Distribution Systems.
A period of 10 to 12 years of overall experience is considered necessary to gain this experience and a minimum grade XII plus 3 years additional study in a related electrical field with additional consideration given to extensive utility experience.
Excellent communication skills, both internal and external, with ability to quickly report event in a concise professional format. Also requires the ability to produce detailed technical and operational reports to various stakeholders and agencies as required.
