University College of the North (UCN) is committed to building a workforce that is representative of the populations we serve. Applications are invited from individuals who have a demonstrated interest and ability to work with Indigenous learners and mature students.

The Position: The NWDC (established in April,2018) will require an Operations Coordinator to oversee centre operations, coordination of the centre’s activities, and will be directly working in the front-line with clients (students, employers, funders, and others) of the NWDC to ensure that training needs are met in an appropriate, effective and efficient manner. The Operations Coordinator will promote the success of NWDC learners, as well as represent the NWDC and liaise, build and maintain strong relationships with various provincial bodies government, Aboriginal organizations, community businesses, Canadian post-secondary institutions, and others In addition to working with clients the Operations Coordinator will interact with a variety of UCN departments (e.g. finance, human resources, enrolment services, and others) to fully integrate NWDC programming and students into the appropriate UCN systems and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Combination education and experience (minimum 5years) in accounting and/or financial management and /or business management
  • Experience providing career counseling
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in marketing via social media
  • Creative problem-solver and critical thinker (strategic planner)
  • Demonstrated abilities to network and create partnerships
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills with familiarity with the MS Office suite
  • Proven ability in effective culturally relevant communications skills
  • Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

Assets:

  • The ability to speak an Indigenous language
  • ICT experience and education
  • Career Counseling Certificate
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Experience delivery adult education

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
