The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation.
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is an autonomous organization within the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, with financial and operational independence from regional and district operations. BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS is responsible for providing a credible reference point for costs and pricing of timber harvested from public land in British Columbia.

The Operations Technician is responsible for developing operating standards, implementing new forest management practices, coordinating technical activities, monitoring adherence to legislative, environmental standards and providing technical expertise to staff in Timber Sales License (TSL) development, operations, silviculture and forest health (FH) activities.
Qualifications for this role include:
- A diploma in resource or forestry management and three years of current (gained in last five years) experience in one or more of operational field forestry activities (such as tenure field development, field layout, silviculture, timber tenure administration and contracted services administration) or an equivalent combination of education and experience such as seven or more years of experience in forestry activities;
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
- Preference may be given for more than one field of forestry; and,
- Must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence; travel is a requirement for this position.
