Salary: $21.50 hourly for 35 hours per week

– Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English is required;
– Secondary (high) school graduation certificate is required;
– 3 years to less than 5 years of work experience as a pastry chef is required;
– Having knowledge of Japanese traditional ingredients such as yuzu (Japanese lime), matcha (green tea), kuro-goma (black sesame), and wasabi (Japanese horseradish) and/or experience in pastries production using these ingredients are an asset

Job duties

– Prepare and make pastries on a regular basis;
– Prepare and make specialty pastries such as cakes and macarons using Japanese traditional ingredients;
– Prepare and make specialty pastries for events and parties;
– Prepare pastries for customers with food allergies or intolerances;
– Maintain records of ingredients/food costs, consumption, sales and inventory, and report to the management on a daily basis;
– Analyze operating costs and report to the management;
– Requisition ingredients, food, and kitchen supplies;
– Train assistant pastry chefs in preparation, making and handling of ingredients and pastries;
– Instruct assistant pastry chefs in preparation, making, garnishing and presentation of pastries;
– Supervise assistant pastry chefs, evaluate them, and report to the management;
– Plan and create new pastry recipes with various ingredients including Japanese traditional ingredients and estimate ingredients/food requirements/cost
