Position Summary
Interior Health is seeking a permanent full time Recreation Therapist Practice Leader to join our team at Gateby Care Centre in Vernon, B.C. The rocky, forested headlands and sheltered, sandy bays of small await you on the east side of Okanagan Lake, just a few miles south of Vernon. This is an area of undulating benchland dominated by stands of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, set between the rolling hills of the Thompson Plateau to the west and the peaks of the Monashee Mountains to the east.

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Practice Leader is responsible for the direction, supervision, coordination, evaluation, planning and monitoring of the therapeutic recreation program in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and directions. The Practice Leader acts as an expert clinical resource to staff and students working in the program. In collaboration with the Manager, the Practice Leader directs the operation of the therapeutic recreation program. Provides input on budget initiatives, workload, strategic/tactical planning, labor relations, change management, client safety, project management and human resources management. The Practice Leader is responsible, in consultation with the key stakeholders, for interpreting and implementing all organizational regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to the therapeutic recreation program.

This is a permanent full time opportunity. The position is scheduled to work Monday-Friday from 08:00 to 16:00.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:

• Graduate of a recognized diploma program in Recreational Therapy plus five (5) years recent related experience including supervisory experience in a Residential Care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Eligible for professional membership with the B.C. Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
• Current valid BC vehicle license

Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
• Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, care staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using, oral written and computer communication means. Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.
• Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
• Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
• Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups. Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing.
• Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
