We currently have an opportunity to join the Laurier community as a Production Coordinator.
Reporting to the Director of Wilfrid Laurier University Press, the Production Coordinator is responsible for coordinating production of all titles the Press publishes in both print and digital form, coordinating the publishing services program, and supporting multimedia production (including, but not limited to audio files). The Production Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that titles in all formats are produced to the highest standards of design and material execution, in accordance with the award-winning reputation of the Press. Working closely with the Senior and Managing Editors, as well as the Digital Projects and the Sales and Marketing Coordinators, the incumbent ensures that the highest product quality is delivered on time and on budget, manages related information flow, and ensures ongoing availability of inventory to maximize revenue and impact through continuous production, sale and circulation of Press titles.
This position has a university-wide mandate and is based at the Waterloo Campus. and nbsp; The incumbent provides subject matter expertise to all campuses, requiring regular interpersonal interactions and collaboration with departments at the Waterloo Campus, the Brantford Campus, the Toronto office and external partners. Special attention is given to ensure equitable service delivery across all locations.
The regular work hours for this position are Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Oversees and coordinates: offset and digital printing production of approximately 30 new and 10 reprinted titles annually; conversion of new titles to digital formats; and multimedia products, including, but not limited to, sound and video formats
Works closely with the Managing Editor on scheduling and budgets for the editorial/production process. Provides expertise to editorial, other staff and authors on all production issues. Works with editors to ensure any art program for titles properly prepared for transmittal.

Determines and sets production schedules; develops and maintains the presswide production schedule.
Develops and sets budgets for interior designs, formatting, cover designs.
Obtains printing estimates and researches cost efficiencies across the production process.
Commissions and directs the work of printers and other vendors, freelance designers, compositors and other suppliers to ensure the appropriate quality of all publications.
Calculates castoffs, writes printer specs, chooses paper stock and binding materials. Reconciles invoices against estimates and budgets, and reports on all production expenses.
Keeps informed of cost-effective methods, technological advances and best practices in both print and digital publishing and advises on their appropriate implementation.
Tracks and coordinates corrections for reprints.
Oversees publishing services program.
Supports Sales and Marketing Coordinator in managing print inventory.
Supports the Digital Projects Coordinator with the production and distribution of digital products.
Minimum university degree plus 3-4 years recent work experience in book production, publishing project management or design.
Familiarity with digital workflow systems, metadata management systems and title/content management systems.
Knowledge and experience of both print and digital publishing, including print-on-demand issues and procedures. Experience with multimedia publishing and tools an asset.
Excellent understanding of editorial and printing processes, and proven editorial and proofreading skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of book design, typography and formatting.
Knowledge and experience of Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud tools; expert user knowledge of InDesign an asset.
Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, proven ability to handle multiple priorities, work under tight schedules and manage changing priorities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a small team as well as with external partners.
$31.30 – $36.82
