Ratification Vote Manager

Term Position – (February 2019 to December 2019)

Reporting To:   Director of the Restoration of Jurisdiction Department on matters related to the contract for services and to the Ratification Committee on matters related to the ratification vote process.

Department: Restoration of Jurisdiction

Location: Anishinabek Nation Head Office, Nipissing First Nation, North Bay, ON

The Anishinabek Nation/Union of Ontario Indians secretariat is looking to hire a Ratification Vote Manager to implement and oversee the ratification process for the Anishinabek Nation Governance Agreement. Under the direction of the Ratification Committee, the successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Deputy Vote Manager to implement and conduct the ratification vote process, in accordance with Governance Protocol Agreement and guidelines.

Other responsibilities include supervising and providing direction to First Nation Ratification Officers, any appointed deputies and translators on the conduct of the Ratification Process; developing training materials and delivering training sessions; consulting and attending meetings with the Ratification Committee; and ensuring voting procedures are conducted in accordance with agreed to ratification vote process.

The Ratification Vote Manager must:

  • be 18 years of age or over;
  • have a minimum of 3-5 years of elections or referendum or ratification experience;
  • at a minimum have a high school diploma;
  • have general knowledge of the Anishinabek Nation/Union of Ontario Indians’,

Anishinabek First Nations and its territory;

  • be available to work irregular and extended hours as required for the duration of the Ratification Vote Process;
  • have excellent organizational, problem solving and time management skills;
  • be able to organize and present complex information clearly and accurately to groups of people;
  • have experience in making presentations and delivering training to groups of people;
  • have management and supervisory experience;
  • must possess a valid driver’s license, be insurable and be able to travel extensively;
  • be able to work both independently and in a team environment;
  • have excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and be aware of accessibility and accommodation issues;
  • have computer software skills, be able to navigate the Internet, use e-mail and word processing software;
  • exemplify diplomacy, judgment, reliability and confidentiality.

Additional Assets:

  • post-secondary education;
  • fluency in Anishinaabemowin language;
  • experience in the administration of various voting processes;
  • training related to elections; and
  • experience in delivering training to groups.

The Ratification Vote Manager cannot be:

  • a person currently holding elected office within a First Nation which is participating in the Ratification Process or Grand Council Chief, Regional Deputy Grand Council Chiefs, of the Anishinabek Nation/Union of Ontario Indians;
  • a member of the Education Ratification Committee;
  • a current employee or contractor of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs;
  • a current employee or contractor of the Anishinabek Nation/Union of Ontario Indians; or
  • a person found guilty of an offence under the electoral laws, by-laws, or regulations of Canada, or any Province, or any First Nation.


Salary:  Commensurate with experience and education
