Concurrent Addiction Inpatient Treatment Service
Acute Care Program
The Acute Care Program is currently seeking full-time, permanent Registered Nurses to work in the Concurrent Addiction Inpatient Treatment Service (CAITS). As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric/addictions and general nursing care. You will ensure security, safety and practice according to the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of nursing practice and Canadian Nurses Association Standards of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Using a primary nursing care model you will be expected to perform assessments; develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care for clients receiving addictions and mental health treatment. You will liaise with otherservices in the Acute Care Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision, provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status and physical assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, mental health and addiction issues, trauma-informed care, harm reduction and recovery-oriented care. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client centered care plans. The successful candidate will be required to assume the responsibilities of the charge nurse role. This position is located on the Queen Street Site campus.
The successful candidate must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and be able to practice nursing without restrictions. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working with clients who have addictions and mental illness. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to develop Nurse-Client relationships and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. Candidates will have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
This full time permanent position is part of the ON A bargaining unit.
$32.21 – $46.11 per hour
