Position Summary
If you are a mental health nurse experienced in crisis intervention, bring your solid decision making skills and apply today to join the team at Kelowna General Hospital! This position works in a fast-paced department and sees primarily high acute and complex patients with a variety of mental health conditions.

The Emergency Response Mental Health Nurse provides consultation or assessment service to the Emergency Department or the Acute/Inpatient Mental Health service at the request of the Emergency Room physician, the general practitioner or the Emergency triage nurse. The nurse also initiates treatment as ordered by the attending physician and liaises with community services and agencies as indicated. Provides follow-up to all patients discharged from the Psychiatric Unit.

As part of the larger Emergency Department team, you are supported by other staff and work closely with the staff on our inpatient psychiatry McNair unit. You are also supported by additional education as needed by our mental health educators and emergency department educators.

This position will be paired with another ED Nurse however will also be considered the expert in mental health as the sole mental health nurse assigned to Zone 5. For this reason we are seeking applicants with a strong mental health background to apply for this position.

Shifts of work are days and nights 07:30 to 19:45 and 19:30 to 07:45. This relief position is scheduled to end January 31, 2020 or return of the incumbent.

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related experience in a mental health and addictions environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
